Replacing a few standard photo paper prints with metallized paper is one way to make your images look great and make your portfolio stand out.

You might think that replacing traditional photo print paper with metallized photo paper would take some time and calibration. But it's surprisingly easy. You don't need to change your profile or artwork files at all. It is only recommended that you calibrate your workspace so that you can envision what metallic paper will do for certain images, helping you choose which one to upgrade.

Once printed, maintenance is also easy. As with any photo print, you want to avoid direct sunlight. Other than that, the metallic paper holds up well. There is no need to laminate, mount or otherwise protect it.

If you are still on the fence about which images to print on metallic paper, or if you should even take the leap for any of your portfolio prints, we recommend trying out the tester. Send the same image file and print it on different types of paper, including metallic photo paper, and see which you prefer. Don't just stick to bright and colorful prints. Black and white images take the metallic look to a whole new level!

Choose a size that you can carry around, usually between A4 and A3. Smaller portfolios are harder to see in quality, while larger portfolios are harder to carry around and are ready to use in a short amount of time.

Keep the number of images to 20-30. you don't want to appear inexperienced with fewer, but you also don't want to include so many that the person reviewing your portfolio forgets what they saw. If you have the time and ability, choose images that appeal to a specific client or purpose.

Novelties and websites are great to dabble in, but they should never replace a physical portfolio. Let metallized paper work its magic!
